12th Annual Rhode Island Youth Playwriting Competition and Festival
Playwriting Competition
Eligibility Public, private and homeschooled students enrolled in grades 9-12 (as of September 2007) are eligible. Previous winners of ACT's Playwriting Competition are not eligible.
Guidelines for Entry in December 2007 - One-Act play, maximum running time 20 minutes
- Minimal sets, minimal props
- All entries must be original
- No musicals, screenplays, or adaptations of previously published material
- Collaborations are accepted
- Scripts may also be submitted to other competitions and programs
- Submit 3 copies - Scripts will not be returned
- Scripts must be typed, securely bound and have numbered pages
- All entries must include a cover page with the following information: title, author, home address, phone number, date of birth, English teacher's name, and school name and address
Winners A maximum of 5 winners are selected. Each winner receives the 2008 Youth Playwriting Award and a cash prize. Notification of winners takes place on January 18, 2008.

Playwriting Festival
ACT selects up to five winning entries in the Playwriting Competition and produces them in the Playwriting Festival. Winning playwrights work with professional theatre artists to stage and cast their play. Casts members are chosen from the ACTeen Ensemble. Then the winning entries make their stage debut at the Festival! |
